I must have an electrical problem (or an invisible trunk monkey).
I'm doing 75 on the Interstate during rush hour and my rear hatch
opens. I pulled over and can hear the rear release cycling as well
as my door locks. It happened again the next time I put the key
in the ignition (release and door locks cycling). Also, the PKE system
light on the message center comes on when this happens.
I seem to have solved the problem by removing the battery from my PKE remote. Do I have an electronic module going bad? Has anyone ever had this problem?
did you ever solve this? my 95 is doing the same thing, opens while driving and solenoid keeps cycling until I smack it shut. I just put new batteries in my PKE transmitter, but it won't go into the sync mode and sometimes the light comes on but not when the hatch opens.

If by "smack it shut" you mean the hatch (vs a door), I would assume you're having a problem with the hatch release relay. On my 89, it sits VERY close to the receiver for the hatch "catch". At hard enough slam could jar the relay back into the other pole (shutting off the trip circuit by jarring open the relay).
My '96 hatch opened up sitting at a traffic light for about a minute. I guess I'll start at the armrest button to disconnect it but it only happens about every 3 weeks or so.
I heard the top being released with that thud sound but I'm not sure about hearing the actuator unless that is the actuator sound. I'd think the actuator sound would be more of a short motor turning for a second and with my radio on I didn't hear that.
I don't see anything pop up on my screen but I'll have to pay attention to this next time. Any advice always appreciated.
Will the glass blow out if on the highway when this happens? Anyone experience this on the highway?
