Default TPI Intake qustions

I have a 1990 corvette with a TPI. as we all know the TPI intake is very restrictive. I would like to build up a motor for this car and i would like to stay with fuel injection. Does anyone have any ideas about a good flowing intake that wont break the bank and will also fit under a stock hood?

Welcome,

First, Learn the search feature... It will save you a lot of grief later.

Miniram (MR)
Super ram (SR)
FIRST intake
TPIS and Accell (and maybe some others) have oversized TPI stuff
LT1 intake conversion

Lots and lots of stuff about all of these here.

There's also the Holley Stealth Ram, but it does not fit under the stock hood of a C4

And last theres single plane runners with elbows or plenum conversions.

How big is the bank. How hard is it to break?

The first question to ask is how much HP do you want it to ballpark?
Second is budget, and how much of the labor can you do yourself?

You could do the LT1 intake for that if you shop carefully.

if i could get 350-400HP out of it i would be extreemly happy. secound i can do all the work my self. I would like to do a LT1 convertion but most of the intakes i have seen dont have the water snout on the intake its made for the LT1 type water pump. I am real intersted in the elderbrock TPI type intake but im not sure its worth 700+. bt mid-range power is were i would like to be.

yea i have and i have a type of intake like that with the distributor hole cut but no upper water hose snout. Is it hard to add one or even convert the motor to run a water pump with the upper on it?

I'm not sure exactly what you are saying but they offer a remote thermostat setup.

Your intake needs two holes drilled and tapped into the rear water jacket so as to run hoses to the remote thermo housing then to radiator

Getting 350-400 with an Edelbrock setup is gonna be pretty much impossible without digging into the bottom end...its doable, but probably not what you want. Joe90 has done it, a link to his page is on my site somewhere.

Better bet for a midrange intake capable of this power is the SuperRam. Miniram/LT1 intake is more of a mid to high rpm intake. They would each be suited to different camshafts.

o yea i do not expect to get that power with just a elderbrock intake. i am going to puts heads/cam in it as well i just need an intake that will flow good enough. the lt1 convertion sounds about the best bet.

Then I would go for heads around 180cc in port size, and a camshaft like the LT4 hotcam or something with around 220 degrees of duration.

It will need a chip after this is done, and another retune after you decide on the intake.

Bear in mind your heads have 58cc chambers, and you need something close or you'll lose CR.

with the last couple of posts. Then there's the BBK we've been waiting to see for years now. How it will perform and when or if it will be released is ??? I read somewhere that LT1.com went out of business or someone else took over, or something, but I don't know myself.
The old Vortecs were 170CC, and run very good but, they require a Vortec specific intake (bolt pattern). The new ones are 185 & 205CC. (I read somewhere the 205s were actually a little larger than advertised.) and supposed to be able to use any bolt pattern. The ports are tall though, and not every intake will match up
