Default Changing the Water pump.............

I noticed some dripping antifreeze from the water pump area today on my 95. I will further investigate tomorrow, but assuming that it is the water pump, I will get a new GM unit as well as new GM radiator hoses. The real question is what to do about the opti if anything while I am in there. The car has 58K on it and is running great. I could do nothing, replace the cap and rotor, wires, replace the whole unit, replace it with an MSD.............

Any thoughts?

Might as well replace it while your in there. As you can see everyone is having problems with stock optis. Better to do it now so you don't have to take water pump off again.

Your 95 has a better opti set up than the previous LT1s. It's vented and is just better. At 58K you should be able to get another 40 K out of it as long as it wasn't soaked. Replacing the cap and rotor will tell you if the inside is okay. Any signs of rust or moisture, get a new one and possibly go with an after market opti. How about installing a cam? It's a good time to do it.

Well, if the coolant is coming from the weephole on the water pump, your fuct. Its gonna **** all over the Opti. My advice would be to replace the opti at the same time, and yes get some new radiator hoses. The 95-96 opti's have a vent line that sucks all moisture out of the unit, but I would go with a aftermarket opti. If your doing the work yourself, Whatever you do, dont go to a GM dealer for the parts, they will rip you off with there ridiculas prices. I recommend a aftermarket vendor like Mid America Motorworks, or Zip. Good luck.

You could always rebuild your pump too.

You guys always make me expend more money. I bought a MSD opti and headers and will start that project mid april

Now, if I was to buy a new cam. Which cam? I assume I should buy new lifters, rods, rollers and I SHOULD get my heads ported. Does anyone sells this as a "Kit"?

Would like to get numbers from you. My 95 LT1 is stock 350, not bored and I'm not looking for a super cam to make the vette turn the coffee over either

Make sure that you check the heater hoses, before you start pulling the water pump. They sometime start to leak and it looks like it the water pump. Good Luck.
