After every shop in town told me I would have to wait 2 weeks to get the tires I wanted, I'm considering trying online. I want a set of Bridgestone Potenzas. Anybody have any site suggestions? Also, has anyone ever had any trouble from a shop when you brought in your own tires to be mounted & balanced?
Got my Potenza RE730's from Luke at the Tire Rack. Showed up in 2 days!!
I took them to the local community college auto shop where the instructors just got a new Hunter 9700 GPS tire balancer. The students treated the wheels (AFS 5-spokes) like they were their own!! Only paid $75 for mount and balance for all 4.
Would not hesitate to order from Luke again. The prices are great even though the local Discount Tire store offered to meet the price, but I didn't feel too secure about watching the 'technicians' do other alloy wheels.

Re: Ordering tires online... (c4cruiser)
Yeah, I buy from Luke on the Corvetteforum tire forum. Shipping on in stock tires is very quick, and the suggested local installer was very good. Didn't even ruin my pressure sensors. Never even would have known this guy was there, and found out he does a lot of SCCA stuff. He gave me turn in advice on the Pocono North track (then again ANY advice to me would be a plus!!!).
What the heck, buy from Luke; get good price, good shipping and support the forum.
I got my Bridgestone Pontenza's Re730's from the tire rack. They were much cheaper then what the firestone dealer here in town was quoting me. I received the tires in 3 days and then just had a local tire shop mount and balance them for me.
Tire Rack ... 2 day delivery ... mounted locally no problem. I also would suggest Sears to mount and balance, Not that I really like Sears, but they helped me when I had to replace a tire pressure sensor ... and they had the proper tire machine and were very accomodating,
I have bought 3 sets from the tirerack, and every one has been smooth and trouble free.
My son-in-law just bought his 1st and 2nd this year with the same results.
No problems just a satisfied customer :)
Just placed an order for a set for the Jeep tonight with Tirerack. Can't beat them. Installation is about $20 a tire. Shipping is half that. Without tax and the cheap price they have, they're the lowest and great service.

Been using Tire Rack for years, they even have a "recommended local installer" feature on the site. You may even be able to have the tires dropped shipped to the local shop so you don't have to haul them around! You have to check with the shop first. Good luck!! :D

The Tire rack (of course!)
As for mounting and balancing, I recommend Cosco. They mounted and balanced a set of Firestone SZ50 for my T-Bird SC for...make sure you are sitting down......$36 including tax.
Since I took my old tires, I save the disposal fee of about $4/tire.
Bought Potenzas from Luke at the Tire Rack. No fuss, no problem. Also no problem with the local shop balancing them. Frankly, they were unable to get them at anywhere near the price from Luke and told me so.
I too purchased the RE730's for my vette from TireRack. Man, awesome service and great tires. It just happened to be raining the day I got them put on, and I pulled out of the shop, onto a completely clear 4 lane road, and I just NABBED on it, and the tires HOOKED! IN THE RAIN! I was like "DAAAAAYUM!"
They probably hooked so good in the rain because they had full tread depth on them vs. the worn ones you were replacing !!!
I noticed that with a set of new tires I put on after replacing my old worn set, but then as the new ones wore down they are waaaaaay worse than the old ones ever were in the rain. Total garbage.
I have had good luck with the tire rack though. Installation was not a problem at a local Kelley tire dealer.
