However, knowing the code number and even knowing what circuit the bad reading came in on (decoding the number) is only half the process. For instance, a code 32 for the EGR valve, seldom is caused by a defective EGR valve. A rich mixture could be the result of a defective O2 sensor, or some other malfunction may have caused the rich mixture. Don't automatically replace the named device. Don't shoot the messenger. Trouble shoot the code and symptoms in a logical orderly sequence designed to locate the cause without replacing expensive parts, needlessly. The FSM has excellent trouble shooting charts for each of the trouble codes.
