I picked up a set of gears for a Dana 44 a while back. They're NOS and the tag says "90-92 Corvette", but the price was right and I had plans to put it in my '85 (Dana 44) so I bought it. It also says it's a 3.45 ratio which I belive was a stock option for those years. I've tried googling the part number on the tag (10448078) and any stamped numbers on the gears themselves, but I keep coming up empty.
Long post short, are the ring and pinion from different years interchangable?
As far as I know, the differences are:
1) The case
2) Driveshaft pinion flange and seal.
3) The bolt holes in the case and cover for the lower strut rod brackets are smaller on the early unit.
Just a quick note for anyone reading this post....Dana 44 and Dana 'super 44' (which is what the Corvette has) are not the same. Don't mistakenly buy gears for a regular Dana 44.
3.45 was probably a stock ratio for '90-'92. I think '85 only had 3.07 for the D44.
Sorry, thats what I meant.... I knew the stock ratio for mine was 3.07 with that being really the only option for the 4+3. The 90-92 (and probably other years) had the option for 3.45.
