to add more power to my combination. i have had it for nearly 30,000 miles and will say it's been solid as a rock for durability and consistency performancewise. i kicked the idea around of improved efficiency heads, and either keeping the 219 or a more aggressive cam. prolly looking at brodix track 1's. like the rest of you.... i am in search for more though i am not a weekend warrior..but that's ok.
it'll be a decision i am going to make within the next month(what better way to spend winter, unless it's mild) either it stays put and i live with it, or the heads are gettin' yanked and new one's go on. power adders are out of the question as i like how reliable this engine is.
Hey Jd,
man cant ever get enough power eh? Id say go for it if thats what you want.More HP always sonds good to me.
:)
BTW, IF you get new heads and want to sell those Lingy massaged D Ports to help offset the costs of the upgrades, I got first DIBS!!!!Please let me know when the time comes.
Ill find someway to get the money.
:)
Yes it is never enough! I was floating when I ran the 12.1@117 not too long ago. The whole way home, I didn't once think of more power. Of course now as the season is done, I AM! :D. Not a problem for you... if I do pull the heads, they're yours. If you'd like I'll send them back and have them checked first. I am confident they're PERFECT as of now...but to assure you I can do that.
Jeff, I might go with LPE's Mech/Roller 236/244, It's got some nutty lift(590) and prolly the duration isn't that nutty it'd still drive smooth. The one fear I have is chip tuning...or re-tuning. It took a while to get this right, and I'm sure the car would have to go back to get it done properly(As I am NOT going to send the chip back and forth again) You see where this is going...it could get quite pricy. Which is why this is merely a thought right now.
I'll keep you up to date.
AS84....it's right around 440HP at the crank.(I'd like 500 and still run on 92 octane, run 10's and drive to the track/home)
JD, is your 383 a 6" rod motor? Which heads are on yours? I'm thinking the 219 cam is the way to go for a 383 roadcourse motor. Any thoughts? Do you think that the AFR 190's will make the same, more or less hp. If + -, by how much.

Oliver Billet 5.85's reside in my motor. This would be a sweet roadcourse motor! Plenty of torque. I love the 219. It is a total have your cake and eat it too cam. I've seen AFR Cars similarly configured to mine running the same speed, or close(which shows how good Lingenfelter's D Ports are compared to an aftermarket head) so you can't go wrong either way.
Vic.. I'd like to click a 10 with my 383.. the 420 would do it no problem. To this day, it's one of my biggest regrets not going with it.
I certainly got everyone's attention with all those views! No joke.
Heads are $2799. Cam is $250 misc stuff to convert to mech roller here n there. NOT worth it. It's staying put,and will be the way it is. Streetable, reliable and pretty quick(But not quick enough :D). I'll purchase full slicks and skinnies(Or E.T. Streets if the M/T 16" Slicks are discontinued) and have a blast next season. Just an FYI.
In my opinion, for you to get more power, you just need to fine tune your set-up.... I think there's another 1/2 second et and 2-3 mph left as it sits with some fine tuning and very little money spending..... but I admit a big cube 420+ would be nice.... but if I ever did that I'd go with the Mini-ram.... I think the SR will be beyond its ability to adequetely feed that many cubes.... or at least feed the motor enough for it to see its potential.
