looking to do some pwr upgrades, budget is about 1500 bucks, does the hypertech prgrmr work and if so how well, also throttle body foil,k@n filter,etc/please help me out...thanx andy..confused
The HPP is excellent for changing shift points on an auto tranny as well as firming up the shift. It's also handy for recalibrating the speedo if you change gears, tire size, etc. If you plan on going to a 160 stat, you will also need the HPP. I don't believe the reprogramming with the HPP adds significant HP by itself but allows you to fully utilize other mods.
A K&N is a definite improvement, plus it lasts a long time (million mile warranty). Consider an open lid as well.
Air Foil ~ I've got one but it's probably a better paper weight on the desk than as a serious performance mod.
Throttle body bypass ~ a cheap, easy mod that is probably worthwhile to do. Search the Forum for details.
Gears ~ if you have 2.59 consider changing to at least 3.54 if not a 3.73.
A good catback system will improve sound but costs. Check out muffler elims for a great sound but lower cost.
There's lots of other things you can do. And you can learn a lot by thoroughly reading the various posts on the Forum.
While those things may or may not work, I say do gears(3.73) and a torque converter. That with drag radials will get you in the 12's.
Both Mackey and Panuzzo did that.
Both have tested various intakes(K&N,Vortex etc) with no change, both did a TB bypass and lower T-stat. Both removed their front sway bars.
Both made it to the mid 12's without even touching the engine, only Mackey had shorty headers which didn't do anything but make it look nicer.
