My 95 is a little wacky. When you start up the car, within the minute, the main fan starts kicking on and off. It does this all the time. The aux fan for the AC does not, unless you kick on the AC or the car gets up about 220 something. My question is, what might be faulty to cause a cold car to kick on it's main fan? It's not on all the time, it will usually run for a minute then turn off for about 30 seconds, then back on...

Coolant sensor? Relay?? I am a little confused with this one.

The ECM will turn the fan on low speed when the coolant is above 108*C and off when the temp drops 3*C and the minimum on time for low speed is 50 seconds. I have not driven my '95 in a few months but I was thinking my fan starts right away and stays on when just setting in the garage.

Oh, so that's normal then? I have never overheated, except close once on a hot day in July here, I was stuck in traffic over an hour, no air movement... But then again, it's FL and it was around 100 degrees.

I asked about the same question a week ago. Just got some dumb remarks but nothing that satisfied me. I then looked it up in the manual and it says, the fan or fans will kick in because of an ECM code that is set. In my case it was a #43 and #71 code.
Check your codes, this might be the answer.

That sounds good. The only thing that should run on a cold start is the air pump which goes for a minute or more, something like that. Could that be what Churchill is hearing.

By the way on 95 the fans run in concert, # Lo & #Hi settings under normal circumstances.

so vettef6, your saying you had thrown some codes and it was causing the fans to kick on more often? What codes were those??

Arnold, I see code 43 is Knock Sensor Circuit. What is 71? I can't seem to find that one listed anywhere.

I think this week I will have to use my Haynes and try to see if I can figure this out..

Correct, 43 is knock sensor, and 71 according to Datamaster is A/C Evap Sensor Failed, and according to the manual it is EBCM internal fault, page 5E1-102.

I just saw this on my bosses 93 Vette. I pulled up a Code 15, which is coolant sensor. From what I've been reading there are 2 coolant sensors. One is on the water pump and that's the one that is bad if it's throwing a code. The other sensor is on the driver side head and that is ONLY for the temp sensor on the dash. Now if the water pump coolant temp sensor is bad and throwing a code, I can see the fans turning on.
