My 95 corvette had a problem missing between 5000 and 5500 RPM but the problem was always corrected by changing new spark plug wires. The plug wires would need to be changed every year or so but now my car has started missing from idle to 5500 RPM. Is this the spark plug wires needing to be changed again or do I have a new problem?
what year is your vette? L98's almost always miss at very high rpms, you wouldnt have to change the plug wires, its other things. If youre missing across the range then its time for new plugs and a distributor (if you have an L98)
I find it hard to believe that it is just a wires problem... have you changed the distributer lately? It may be the rotor starting to follow a carbon track. It would also be helpfull to know what year your car is too.
I changed my plug wires for the first time on my 95 at 60K miles and they didn't need new ones I just wanted to go to red. How many times have you changed them and how many miles do you have on your car?? Seems odd that changing your plug wires would fix a miss problem unless you're melting one of them. I would do the lights out, completely dark test with the engine running to see if you see any arcing going on. More than likely it's your optispark going south at this point....
IT's a 95 and the problem started monday and is now at the point I had to drive my truck today because the car is running so rough. I looked under the hood with the car running in gear with the brakes set last night in the dark. On my previous problem I could always see or hear the plugs wire grounding out. But now it is just coughing and missing. If I bring the RPMs up, the car will straighten up. I had the engine detailed Saturday and now I'm affraid they got the distributor wet but I was told by the dealership to keep driving it and it will clear up but that is not happening.
Thanks for your help. Well it looks like my Saturday is going to be under the hood. Thanks and I'll let you know on Monday the out come. Thanks agian.
(Damn I'm not looking forward to this) :smash: :boxing :mad  :flag
I wash the engine on my 95 all the time.... I even blew the hose just above it and coolent poured all over it. Still no problems. I'd be hesitant to believe the detail shop caused it...sounds like it's been degrading slowly which it what the opti often does...
Good luck and keep us posted....
