How will 220cc int. vol. heads with flow nos. inl.205cfm @.300, 250 @.400, 265 @.500 and 272 @.600 work on a 383?
Will the intake volume cause a significant loss in low-mid-range torque, or will the 383 cubes be able to support it?
With low down grunt/torque being a consideration, any thoughts on ball-park nos. for a cam?
These heads were on a 350 street car, but was a pig to drive below 3500rpm...pulled strong to 7000, though..
I was wondering if they would behave similarly in a larger cube engine..
Btw the heads in question are Pro Iron Lightning.

I don't understand how it could be a pig, the flow numbers must be great...
They're too big for a 383 IMO. They will be better than the 350, but still too big.
Way too big, especially with TPI (I see that your car is an 86 w/87 motor). Those heads are more suited for a 400+ cu. in. motor. The low speed air velocity on a smaller motor kills the driveability. I know that you don't want to hear that, because you already have the heads.
Thanx for the replies...
I didn't want to hear them but I'll get over it..I haven't bought them yet, but had my suspicions....I guess I needed confirmation and you guys have provided that.
Thank you.
Better to hear here, than "Get a Good Deal" and have to suffer the poor performance the would have followed. Look around, there's plenty of used/new heads to choose from.
The AFR 195 Eliminators have similar flow #'s with flowing a little less at lower lifts but flowing more as the lift becomes higher. And I think a 195 head on a 383 would be ideal.
I run AFR 220 on my 355ci it runs just fine
I do have taller gears though 3.92 and a 3200 stall.
I also have a 200 shot that I flipped on once or twice, runs like a raped ape.
If you want to use it as a daily driver you can use the stock exaust ,the back presure will give it a better idle.
If you use after market pipes it will stall in traffic ,alot or have a slight dead spot.
But it does depend if you are going to deck the block and what compression your pistons are.
My ported LT4 heads have larger than 220cc intake ports (closer to 227cc) and my car makes plenty of low-end power. Those heads are NOT too big with the right cam and intake choice.
