L83 cam specs

L83 cam specs

Did the '84 engine(L83) come with a solid lifter cam or a roller cam?

Those two properties aren't mutually exclusive. There are solid lifter flat tappet cams, hydraulic lifter flat tappet cams, solid roller cams, and hydraulic roller cams. The L83 uses a hydraulic, flat tappet cam. No C4s came with solid lifters, flat or roller tappet. 1987 and up engines use hydraulic rollers.

The L83 cam specs are 403i/415e @ 50. 202/206 duration, flat tappet hydraulic

My FSM doesn't show durations, but it differs on the lifts. It shows the lobe lifts as:

Intake: .2733"
Exhaust: .2820"

Times the 1.5:1 rocker arm ratio, equal valve lifts of:

Intake: .40995" (.410")
Exhaust: .423"
