ive always used the deepwell socket with the box end wrench on it. I replaced the sparkplugs on my LT1 about 3 months ago. I didnt have to remove anything from the engine at all, except for the plug wire. But im skinny, so im lucky! Godd luck.
I just did the evens (pass side) on my LT1, and I didn't need the cutdown socket I had - go figure. Was tough to get my hand in there though on 8 - gymnastic like. Worse was getting the 8 plug wire on and off - never hear the click I was looking for, but it is on.
What a PITA job! Just did my LT4 (haven't even fired it yet) & hope I never have to do that again. I used my Metwrench plug socket with an open end wrench on the end and a lot of acrobatics and language. That cutoff and modified tool might have come in handy. #8 plug wire connection is a mystery on mine too....NO "CLICK". As hard as it was to get the MSD wires on, I don't think it is loose, but only time will tell.
