my 84 runs at idle in my driveway about 225-230. The fan kicks on at 238 and off about 225.

150° is to warm? Hmm with the temp that low, the thermostat might be stuck open.

If it isn't stuck open, it is missing. THAT needs to be fixed.

What does "--thanks ill keep the in the lockbox" mean?

CFI can answer this better than I can, but if your car is running that cool, and it would likely be due to a stuck open or missing t-stat, your computer may be operating as if the car is in "start-up" mode and thus running rich. Not to sure on the 84 computers specifically but many newer models give a system extra fuel until it reaches temp.

150°F is cold not warm. Unless you are in Metric mode....which converts to ~300°C

Can you confirm that you are in English or Metric mode???

150° F ~ 65° C. 150° C ~ 300° C. I find it hard to believe that is will sit and idle indefinitely without exceeding 150° F. It may cruise down the highway at that cool, but with no air flow across the radiator it should warm up well past 150° F, and eventually turn the fan on.

psychosurfer,
The 150° F is about the temp my trans will shift to OD and lock the converter. I don't own a scanner and I can't tell you at what temp it goes into closed loop. I'd have to go out for a drive to double check, but I think the cold idle shuts off at about the same temp. I remember thinking just the other day that I wished it would shut off earlier than ir does.
