Default Backup lights inop

Has anyone had to replace the backup switch on the tranny? The lights work if I bypass that switch, and I was wondering if it maybe needs adjustment or what? The backup rod is moving but I am unsure of how it interacts with the switch inside the transmission.

The switch isn't HARD, but not super easy. It is just tight space. I replaced mine, all is good now. :)

Hey just had mine replaced a couple months ago. Part cost 75 bucks at the dealership, and I had a friend put it in, works a garage with a lift. It is a tight spot I could not have done it in my driveway, but I'm no mechanic.

Get it from Jeff Kopp. I think it cost me $55.

parts@superchevyperformance.com

His name is 18Carfan on here. Great guy! Anyways, I did mine with the front of the car on ramps. I used a pair of plyers to get the old one off, and tighten the new one. There wasn't enough room for a socket.

Don't know where it's at On the4+3.
Here is the culprit.

The white plug is the backup switch next to the reverse rod.

Thanks for the pictures Scorp. That's exactly what I needed. Looks like it's a simple contact switch. From everybody's posts, sounds like I should just replace it.

PS. I notice you have a lot of oil residue in that area of the transmission. If you ever figure out what seal is causing that let me know because mine is in the same situation. I've just finished redoing the seals in my diff, so I'm not to eager to start searching for the ones in the trans just yet. But if I knew which ones to do, I might be inclined to do them now since I have the exhaust and driveshaft out.
