So I have a friend with a 1997 Firebird LT1. We've been trying to diagnose his tranny issues. First his clutch only disengaed 80%. So we dropped the tranny and here the McLeod clutch lost a few of the springs. It was replaced with a RAM clutch.
Now however, the car won't go into 1st gear if stopped. If you are moving and put in into 1st, it goes smoothly. However, if stopped, the only way you can get it into 1st is if you put it into 2nd and then back into 1st.
I'm thinking it could be a syncro, but it seems to coincidental to have 2 unrelated things happen within a week of fixing the one or the other. Any ideas?
It's a T-56, but I figure diagnoses would be nearly identical.
Sounds like it needs new blocking ring. The sync. pushes on it to slow gear down.Easy trans to rebuild. If u keep grinding it in to gear u will need a sycn.
