At last! An easy job! I've done everything from plugs to heater core to rebuilding an L98. Nothing was ever an "easy" job. But! Fuel pump replacement was a breeze. I bought a new high volume unit from Racetronix, and I've got to say putting it in was a piece of cake. Maybe two hours, max.
I ordered the pump online. It was delivered 7 days later. The site has detailed instructions on how to install the pump. And, everything from new bolts to a paperclip (believe it or not, it was needed) was included in the unit.
I heartily endorse the product. For those of you needing a new pump, and have some experience with minor maintenance, these people put out a very good unit.

Very easy. Can you believe that the Chiltons manual actually claims that you have to removed the entire gas tank to change the pump? It does.
Imagine that some poor bastard somewhere actually did drop his tank when he did not have to because the Chilton book said.
I guess I would have been the next "dumb bastard" to drop the tank until I ran across this thread. I may soon be replacing my fuel pump on my 91 L98 ZF6. I thought you had to drop the tank to access the pump.
So forgive me for my ignorance but how do you gain access to the pump without dropping the tank? Through the filler port or licence plate?
just did the same thing last weekend trying to fix a stalling problem and slow startup. I was so pleased with how easy the job was, unfortunatly it didn't fix the problem.
When I first read the manual before installing it said step 1: Remove Gas Tank. I almost flipped out. Then after taking a look at it I realized they were full of *#&@.
Stephen - my name is Jerry, user name "gsuuod" and I am trying to replace my fuel pump in my 1994 C4, unfortunately I got my parts from mamotorworks and their instructions are like the Chilton ones you mentioned in your thread I just saw( drain and remove tank, etc.); can you help me? I just joined this forum and I don't know the "in's & out's" very well. Would it be possible for you to let me use the "easy" instructions you were fortunate to get? E-mail = fgmjr@comcast.net
