I'm a little bit confused on what splayed main caps should I get.
I have '90 Corvette L-98 1 piece RMS 2-bolt block and I'd like
to get splayed main caps for it.
I've checked e-bay and there are a few options from cheap to
not so cheap.
But what confuses me is that there are two versions of ProGram
main caps, flat or step bottom.
It is stated that flat caps are for 2 or 4-bolt blocks and stepped caps
are for 4-bolt blocks.
But my 2-bolt block is stepped.
Did any of you did this conversion and what kind of caps did you use?
I bought the flat ones from program eng. It states in the instructions the machine shop has to machine the block to accept these caps,so your steps will be gone.
putting caps on a block cost alot of money, you have to line bore, line hone + the machining to make the caps fit and the new bolts and studs. can i ask what kind of power you plan on making ? a 2 bolt with studs can take bunch of power …. I personally had one that went 9s and few of my friends have bunch of 10s motors on 2 bolt . the way I see it with the money your going to spend on a stock block to convert it to 4 bolt splayed, you can find a used aftermarket block and never look back …

I plan to build all forged 383 and goal would be ~500 crank HP.
But I want engine that could take supercharger if I'll decide to
use one later.
Problem is my location. If I lived in US I wouldn't think twice before getting aftermarket block,
but with shipping costs I have to work with what I can find here.
