If your car has an auto trans it has a dana 36. If it has a manual trans it has a dana 44. The search function is your best friend. At your age, I was WALKING.

By the center bolt in the top of the rear cover. The D36 has one, the D44 doesn't. D36 = 9 cover bolts. D44 = 8 cover bolts. All autos had the D36. 1985 and up manuals had the D44. RPO "G87" Since these cars are old and some have been modded the best way to see what YOU have is to climb under it and check it out. A Dana 44 swap in an automatic car is not uncommon.

You can answer a lot of your own questions if you take the time to read the Technical Summary at the top of this forum section and the one on RPO codes at the top of the C4 General forum.

Open your center console and look under the lid. There is a a label there with the RPO's listed. The VIN doesn't have any RPO's in it.

Cant check the RPM yet since engine isnt back in it
With the 2.59 at 70 i should be looking at about 1400-1600 right?
Will stroking the 350 to 383 increase rpm? or will it be the same as stock?

If your RPO codes arent under the center console, they are under the lid to the rear storeage compartment!!! No need to go jacking the car up!!!

There should be another G code close to the G92 that tells the exact ratio.

In '85 automatics only came with 2 gear ratios, both of which use a D36. The base ratio is 2.59, and the optional RPO G92 which is a 3.07
