I have a transmission leak on my 87 coupe. Check fluid level regularly, and it is never low, actually above the full line. Haven't needed to add fluid yet. Could it be over filled and causing a leak?
Well the one at the front is the front seal. I had the same leak on my trans. I had 116,000 on mine so I went ahead and had it rebuilt while it was out . I also replaced the rear main on the engine while the trans was out . If your car has a lot of miles and you have to pull the trans, its a good time to rebuild it..WW
88,000 miles. Is it safe to just live with the leak and check fluid level regularly. Wouldn't want to rebuild until absolutely necessary. It runs fine, shifts firmly and no problems otherwise. It pretty much sat for a couple of years before I bought it.
If it is just a couple of drops no biggie. As long as you check your level often and you don't start to see real puddles under there I wouldn't sweat it

88,000 is not enough miles to rebuild unless your having problems with the trans. The sitting may be what caused your leaking, not using a car is the worst thing you can do. WW
One more thing, just taking a shot here, is there a vent on the tranny in case of over filling where it might be coming from? (Just wishful thinking, I thought I heard that mentioned before). Thanks.
The vent comes out on the top center of the trans. It is curved to the right side of the car, and will puke fluid if overfilled. Put a mirror up there and have a look.
