I have tpis long tube headers, and i was putting the spark plugs back in to notice that on the #7 cylinder there is maybe a 1/4 inche between the tip of the plug and the header. I geuss i have to bend it in. Has anybody had this problem before? :smash:
I had the same problem TPIS long tubes on my straight plug heads. Which, TPIS said there would be a clearance problem. I just put an old plug in #7(this can damage plug) slip on a spark plug socket and hit the side of the socket with a hammer. If you have ceramic coated headers this will give enough clearance without burning your spark plug boot. Replace the #7 plug and you are ready to go. Actually, I am really pleased with the fit and performance of these headers.
Hi i have investigated and heard that it is very important to tell which head one have. I am considering AFR190 s and they are delivered in different solutions regarding plug angles. So I one is going for AFR or may be others it is important to what kind of headers and visa versa.

I have the Hooker long tubes on the 86 with AFR angle plug heads. The angle layout makes plug swaps easier, plus you need a plug socket that has a slot cut into it to be able to change a couple of the plugs.
I had that same problemo, as well. I called TPIS and was told, not to worry. Just take the large socket and wrap it in cloth. Then place it where plug should be. You should see a dimple there already. The wail away with a hammer on that socket. The ceramic coating did not break or peal. This was on the stock heads too, if it matters.
Ok well it seems that bending my headers is the only way to go because i have the WHOLE exhuast system in place and dont want to take it down. DO any of you have any tips on how to do this w/o f****** it up.
When I put the headers on the chevelle I had to take the hammer to them. It was a shame to ding up a perfect set of headers. These were headmans, and when I called them the guy explained that every set of headers they make vary some, even for the same make car. He said I could send them back and get another set, but they might even be worse. I am going to be getting a set for my vette and hope all is OK with them. But I think if you get a set that matches and clears everything it is just simple luck. Hopefully I have some better luck with the next set.
I use Bosch platinum plugs. They are the shortest. I then modified the plug by removing the screw-on cap and filing the bottom off 1/8" and used a thread-in bolt cutter on my wiring pliers and cut the threaded rod off 1/8". This gave more clearance to the TPiS longtube ceramic header at spark plug #7. That way I didn't have to dimple the header. I was aftraid to do that in case the coating might chip. You could easilyt do it with non-coated headers. Before I modified the plug, I had arcing between the plug and the header.
