Re: Needing some clutch recomendations for modded L98 (AS84)
I have a SPEC Stage 4 in my car, its a bit much (chatters on engagement but grabs like a **** :D) I would look into a stage 3 since Im sure the drivability would be a bit better.
he is a SPEC dealer and a great guy to deal with, he is local in my area but does a ton of phone/internet business, I also have a good friend who works there.
Re: Needing some clutch recomendations for modded L98 (AS84)
Actually the stage 3 is still a little much for the street. No slipping it at all. How much HP do you have? The mcleod clutches are very nice on the street, and they still hold like crazy.
Re: Needing some clutch recomendations for modded L98 (Nathan Plemons)
when its all said and done it will be somewhere around 325 rwhp. Right now we'll call it 270 rwhp. Its pretty much a daily driver, but it will see some track time a few times a month.
Re: Needing some clutch recomendations for modded L98 (AS84)
Check out Centerforce. I have a prototype unit in my 1999 30th Anniversary Trans Am. This is an amazing clutch, drives perfect, and grabs REALLY hard. Trust me you cant go wrong with a Centerforce.:spam
Re: Needing some clutch recomendations for modded L98 (TireFryer30th)
I checked into the dual friction. Do I really need 90% more holding power? Won't that be too hard on the $ZF6$? Tim @ LPE told me that they use the stock clutch in their 383 cars. I'm leaning towards a light duty spec or even the centerforce stage 1. Thanks for all the help
Re: Needing some clutch recomendations for modded L98 (AS84)
I have the dual friction center force clutch it has a much lighter pedal than the original corvette clutch it engages smoother and has been holding up to over 1000hp for two years. To get the light pedal you need centerforce pressureplate it has weights on it that tighten as the revs come up. Most everyone likes what ever they have speaks well for several companys but I will go with another one like i have now if this one ever goes bad. I would not tolerate a clutch that grabs or chatters.
Re: Needing some clutch recomendations for modded L98 (black bart)
Black bart- Are you running a ZF6? If so I never thought they could hold 1000hp....BTW thats awesome man!
The dual friction boasts 90% more holding power and all that I can think of is that there's going to be 90% more wear and tear on my transmission.
Re: Needing some clutch recomendations for modded L98 (AS84)
I would recomend SPEC stage 2. Thats what I have in mine and I plan to go to 350 to 400rwhp with it. The feel in stock, but has more gripping power. Talk to chris over at speeddemon, they are a supporting vendor, thats where I got mine from.
Re: Needing some clutch recomendations for modded L98 (AS84)
As i stated this clutch is very smooth you may not need that much clutch but this is smoother than anything you ever drove and it will hold about anything that you want to throw at it in the way of power. I have 89 this is the strong zf6 the newer ones are not as strong. I have not had any problems with the trannny but i don't power shift nothing to gain by it except tire smoke. When under acceleration i just roll into the throttle until i think it is about to break loose and spin takes some practice but in time you get use to it. I bought mine direct from the factory also have thier flywheel i talked to engineer and told him about my engine and he said that this was what i needed works fantastic so far. I'am not one that spends my weekends at the drag strip so i won't use up a clutch as fast as the drag boys do. I prefer racing on a roadcourse. :D
