I was doing my shifter recently (T5 swap) and I had to remove the driver's side console carpetting. It was installed over top of the floor material. Based on this I'm pretty sure the floor goes on first, but I haven't done my carpetting yet.
Good question. I will be doing my carpet as soon as I get my sound deadening. Mine is also an 85.
What did you use for deadening? I was using 1/2 inch foam that i had laying around that i cut to fit everywhere but ran out when doing the storage compartments
I lined the entire interior of My '85 with Dynamat. Works really, really well.
The carpet was installed with the Console side pieces overlapping and on top of the Footwell pieces. Probably wasn't the Original carpet though...
sill???
I just know i have an 11 piece carpet
2 for each side in back and a big piece for bottom of back

the underdash pieces ARE a pain in the ***. The glue that originally held them on is super strong. Get yourself a can of 3m spray glue to do the new pieces. I bought mine at home depot, i believe it was 3M 77.
Hope you got the mass backed carpet from willcox. Great fit and the mass backed does make a difference in noise control, as compared to the regular plastic back carpet the the previous owner had installed.
Yea those underdash pieces were fun to pull off
and as for glue I have some stuff that i just put in my paint gun and go
works great did my blazer that way adn it held up great
as for mass backed idk where i go the carpet from or what mass backed is but I added my own sound deadener to the mix
