Had my computer throw out a code 42.......

Had my computer throw out a code 42.......
Was driving home in the rain and all of a sudden my CHECK ENGINE light comes on. According to my manual it has three things listed under 42; (1) Electronic spark timing circuit- open or shorted (2) Direct ignition system fault - bypass circuit open or shorted to ground during engine run (3) Fuel cutoff relay circuit - open or shorted to ground. Does it mean that all these things are wrong or just one of these, if it just one how can I narrow it down?

there is thing called electronic spark control... the module is located on the side of the heater core area under the hood, all the way over on the pass side.
that is the brain for what is more than likely the cause... the knock sensor. they may have gone bad... never know... car is a bit older now...
