Frozen clutch?
Took my 92 LT-1 out today for a ride. While doing about 60 MPH I dropped it out of 5th gear into neutral, letting it cost out until my speed dropped to about 40 MPH. When I went to put it back into gear, the clutch went to the floor way too easy. I let it come back up to normal position but when it did, the clutch petal was hard as a rock!! Had to get a $200 tow back to the shop. My mechanic said that coasting out at that speed for an extended period of time is probably what caused the problem
(anyone ever here of that?) but was unsure of what exactly the problem was. I was hoping it was the master or the slave cylindar but he already pulled those and all was well. Anyone have any ideas?! Thanks for the help
Ray
Don't push it again as it might still be usable. But once you force the piston out, you may damage the Slave.
The mystery here is finding out what let go. Somewhere in there the fork is not contacting anything. The "Throw Out" bearing may have let go, or anything along the lines of the clutch.
You'll have to get a mechanic that is honest. Claiming that coasting too long was the culprit....that would have me pushing my car out of that shop.
And thinking about it just a bit......"Frozen Clutch" terms.....makes me start to think what is broken.....maybe just the slave cylinder rattled loose......
