Default Self Aligning roller rockers for L98

Maybe I haven't looked everywhere but I've done quite alot of searching and I think it will get a quick answer here. I am looking for 1.6 full roller rockers. I understand from past threads that if you don't get self aligning rockers that you will need to buy pushrods and guideplates. I looked at some but says that they will work for 1987 and up, will they still work in a 1985? its the same motor right?

Here is the link to the information

THANKS GUYS!!

Just buy the non self aligning for 1985. It already has guide plates.

Hardly! Why would you want self aligning rocker arms on an '85? It is a bad idea to employ more than one of the three methods of rocker arm alignment on the same engine.

RACE ON!!!

No guide plates on an '85. The push rods are guided by the cast in push rod holes in the cast iron heads. If one goes to a different rocker ratio, it is necessary to check for clearance through the cast in slot for push rod clearance with the new ratio.

87 got 128 heads. Real guide plates and normal rockers. SA rockers came with the 113 heads.

Anyway, just get the non self aligning for your car. BTW buy the best full RR you can afford.

I will speak from heartache here, WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT USE THE FACTORY PUSHRODS AND GUIDEPLATES WITH NON-SELF ALIGNING ROCKERS, YOU WILL HAVE PROBLEMS! If you have the 113 aluminum heads, they have guideplates, these guideplates are not hardened, as well as having wider guide slots. These guideplates were never intended to guide the pushrods with the engine running. The pushrods will wear into the edges of the guide slot, and after a short period of time your rocker will start pushing on the edge of the valve. Hopefully you catch it early like myself, and don't do much damage. This was caused by a fleshy headed mutant on a manufacturer's tech line that assured me that I could run their non-guided 1.6's on my 113's. cost me a set of rockers, guideplates, and studs. these rockers were non roller 1.6's from a reputable engine parts manufacturer. Still haven't recieved any kind of warranty reimbursment for his ignorance. Any way, save the wave and keep the blue lights out of your mirror.
