The covering of my console lid is coming un-wrapped from the frame. Has anyone tried gluing this bacnk into position? Or should I jusr bit the bullet and buy a new for $200 bucks?
3M makes a 2 part glue. Part 1 is a spray activator that you spray to both sides. Part 2 is a tube of liquid glue, sort of like crazy glue. This stuff works great. I used it on my door panels. Its only sold at high end automotive paint supply shops. Never seen it at Autozone, pep boys, etc.
Actually this is an easy fix. I fixed mine and also a friends. Just take the console off the car, just a few screws, disconnect the light at the plug. Then take the consule apart from the metal support and get some gorella(sp) glue. I glued the console back to the support and I used tape to hold it in place over night and it worked like a champ.

I glued mine back together with Epoxy. Once the glue was carefully applied, I used several wooden paint sticks and C-clamps to hold it all together until the Epoxy dried. It worked great and is still operational 5 years later without any noticeable defects or problems.
that was going to be my next question. The foam is breaking down insider there and that is what is splitting and allowing the vinyl to lift up.
I was thinking that if you just glued it...would it start to split elsewhere.
5 years is a good record......Ima gonna try it.
Worked great for me. My foam was starting to crumble. The Epoxy soaked into the foam and helped to hold it all together. The Epoxy fixed it, for good I think. The only caution is you must be very careful when applying the glue as the Epoxy is hard to get off if you get it on the wrong parts.
I've found automotive GOOP (that's the brand name!) works wonders on projects like this. It has incredible holding strength and remains flexible. About $6 for a tube.

Usually they come apart just at the edges, for some unknown reason it is also usually the hinge side. Clean out the crumbled foam and crud, reglue it (I like the Gorilla glue as well). Then wrap it as tight as you can with shrink wrap andlet it sit for about 24 hrs for the glue to fully set.
I fixed mine using quick set super glue. Just glue it up, pull it tight, and hold until it sets. Finished it off with a new coat of vinyl spray dye. Looks like new!
