I am trying to track down an engine miss. When i pulled the dist cap off, i noticed that the shaft rotates about 1/16 of a turn. Is this normal ???
Any help woul be appreciated.
Steve
I little play keeps oil in the bushings along the shaft, but I like to minimize it with drive gear shims available at almost any speed shop. The play does effect spark scatter, but not very much.
thanks for your responses!!!
it is a strange one...... the miss is only apparent when the A/C is on. As soon as the A/C is on it is like a wire has come off
Im lost at the moment !!
Are you sure it's not a bad compressor? Turn the center part by hand ( with the engine off of course ) see if it's hard to turn or has a rough feeling.
If the compressor makes a lot of noise it could be fooling the knock sensor...that could set off limp home mode where the car runs like total crap.
If not, run the car at night, open the hood, turn off the hood lights and look for a glowing plug wire ( bad ones will glow in the dark ).
