I just took delivery of some Heddman Hedders from Summit that are designed for C-4 Vettes and found that the exhaust ports are round.
The exhaust ports on the heads are rectangular. Will this cause a large perfromance drop? This car is being built as a track only car to run around a track just for fun. I am adding true dual 3" exhaust, but if the port mismatch causes a huge depreciation in power I may have to upgrade to Hooker$.
Mo, they work fine. I have Hedman's on my LT1 and gained about 21hp over stock. Just make sure and get a top quality header gasket, the ones they ship are junk. Now I have never had any LT's that were designed for my car, but I cannot believe they would give you much more hp or flow that much better.
A friend of mine recommends me using a copper gasket (they're expensive) since the psger side has a leak. I've been told quite a few Heddmen flanges are prone to exhaust leaks. Cant remember the gaskets I have on now but they were the typical $2 over the cheap ones (probably felpro).
Old Trick: 2 - copper gaskets, heat cycles & torque, cycle, torque, etc (3) or (4) times, no problems with my install or leaks, plus helps on spark plugs removal (L98)
I used Mr gasket and don't forget to use lock washers, drive the car a couple hours after install, let cool down completely and retighten bolts. Do it again in a week or so and you should be good to go.
