I have had my 89vette with an automatic with 75000 origional miles.I don't intend to race but would like to get the power out of it that it was designed to do without any internal engine work. What are some of the bolt on parts can I put on it. I've already started on the exaust and I put an msd ignition and wires. How much do you think I will gain? Thanks for any info you can give me.
chip it and add 60 HP right away. umm do intake thats pretty easy. headers arent that hard to do. i would say cam but you dont want to do anything internal. twin turbo it, that would make it fast.
Must be good drugs in VA
How about one of them electric superchargers while you are at it?
25% more Hp for only $69.99
Add a TB air foil , TPS switch and those special vortex exhaust tips ; you can have 500Hp for only $200

wtf are you talking about. you chip it and it will add 60 HP. go look a mamotorworks.com they have chips for like 300$ that will add like 60 hp

It is a good idea to post from experience and not what you read in an advertisement. Please post your dyno slip with your chip installed to support your recommendation to the OP

You need to do a little more research or you are going to be very disappointed with your performance upgrades.

if you can find a stock LT1 catback for cheap it is a good upgrade for the L98 cars (dual 2 3/4" pipe!
However, if you want some real power from an L98 your going to have to ditch the intake, and or get into the engine.
*caveat this is the 21st century folks, 300 hp is not close to real power.

The exhaust on TPI cars is pretty restrictive. Cuisinart's advice is right on the money. Do the exhaust first, get it tuned, and see if the power level is where you want it. High flow intake parts will give you a decent bump in power once the exhaust is complete, but you will have to make internal changes (cam, head work) to realize their full potential.
Sell the MSD for money to use on real mods, also stay away from silly chips. A custom tune can help once you have done a bunch of mods. You mentioned exhaust mods, did you put on headers? After exhaust then a better intake will help. Under drive pulleys are a nice bolt on too.
LISTEN TO VADER. He knows his s**t about our engines. Do your research and start with his web site then use the search function about specific modifications.
With the L98, exhaust modifications (high flow cat, larger pipes, headers if your state allows them, duel outlet mufflers) really helps. That gets the air OUT. Then concentrate on getting the air IN, high flow runners, better plenum, better intake manifold. Then if you can, heads and roller rockers. You can get alot of power without touching the bottom end. You will never get the power of the new Corvettes, but you will have fun driving it.
Right now my 87 Roadster is in the shop having long tube Hooker hedders, stainless steel dyno max High performance mufflers with y pipe,
SLP C.A.I. and removing cats. I was going to do all the work my self however due to surgery I will be off work for several weeks and do not want to miss any good weather driving.
I am going to chip it for the BIG power gain.
I will buy a Bag of Fito Lay Chips and have some friends over to celebrate when my car and myself are all back together.
If you want some power you gotta get inside the engine. A head/cam/header change has turned my car into a rocket. Next project is the intake when I win the lottery .
As Vader says read his site...get the chip (customized to YOUR car) once you modify your car or you'll end up paying someone kid's college tuition. (Look at what our buddy at Mid America (or ? it's called now) has in his garages.)
Beware there are companies/websites that feed you bull$*&t about adding hp/tq for their products, so most of these bolt ons will do nothing but drain your wallet, so be careful what you read.

They don't lie they usually say (UP TO XXX HP) however, some of those up to numbers had to be on a previously malfunctioning car, and the new performance part fixed the problem.
I can't see 60 HP in any mail order tune on a stock engine. Now with intake, cam, heads, exhaust I can see the tune boosting the performance in the double digits.
