Default Engine Install Help Needed!!

Guys I'm trying to get my LT1 engine back into my car and I can't seem to get the bell housing to mate with the tranny(ZF6). I'm about two inches out so I'm guessing I can't seem to get the shaft into the pilot bearing.

I spend about 8 hours on these two inches between yesterday and today. I even tried getting some longer tranny bolts and I have 3 of the 5 in and it still won't seem to slide into place.

Does anybody have any suggestions for me??? Any tips on how to do this?

I guess this afternoon I'm going to have to pull out the tranny, bolt the engine mounts in and then try and reinstall the tranny. I'd really like to leave the tranny in.

Please help!

Make sure the clutch fork is desengaged, sometimes tilting the trans back a bit helps. (tail end down)

Did you use a clutch alignment tool when you installed the clutch pressure plate? If the slave cylinder is in place and the clutch linkage is all hooked up, possibly having a helper depress the clutch pedal may solve the problem. I admit not being familiar with the C4 hydraulic clutch mechanism. Maybe that isn't a possible solution. If not, can you get a lever in there or find some way to release the clutch? Even though I am not familiar with the linkage, the clutch disc misalignment is a very likely cause of your problem.

RACE ON!!!

with CFI-EFI. If you did not use the alinment tool it will not slip on like it should and you will be off 1-2 inches. Check it out.

I used the clutch alignement tool. I also tried depressing the clutch to get a bit more play and that has not seemed to work.

I guess I'll just pull the tranny out and see if I can tilt it at the correct angle.

I have never dropped the transmission. Try removing the motor mounts off the block if you have them on. I always find it simpler to just remove the motor mounts and bolt them to the block once the trany is in place and the mounts are in the correct location

Default Transmission to motor engage

While engaging the engine/trans, put the trans in gear (highest gear) and rotate the output shaft while engaging. This will spin the input shaft and help the splines engage. I have an 'old' tail shaft connector (drive shaft input) that I use for this.
Good luck
PS IF you've got some of the bell housing/transmission bolts started, make sure they are evenly tightened to retain parallelism.
