Default Thinking about doing a crate motor...ideas welcome.

I have pretty much decided to drop a crate motor in my car. What would be my best setup? I am in AZ and we have emissions here, but I know a few tricks to get thru soo its not a big concern, I definitely dont want to build my motor, I would rather buy a crate motor? What are everyone's suggestions?

why a crate motor? you only have 27k, first run it to death, then throw in a crate motor.

This is a little expensive, and I think it may be a challenge to make it pass emissions, but this would be cool.... :yesnod: http://www.theengineshop.com/engine.shtml

Mitchell builds a great engine, but you are paying $1800.00 for the Motown block alone. You can duplicate it for less money using a 400 small block or I know a member who got 408 inches out of his L-98 block. Can build this engine for about $5K I would think if you work at it.

well in that case i would have someone rebuild your L98 into a 383 or bigger. Better parts inside and Accel 219 or ZZ9 cam along with ported heads, Superram intake, headers and exhaust. After all that you will definitely be in the 13's and prolly even lower. You could also get a zz4 block if you wanted to keep the L98 block.

Of course you know what i'm going to say!! :D Look at my sig. If you have money to burn you could get a LPE engine! I know lots of ppl say that the prices are outrageous but your paying for the name as well, and i don't have any regrets about spending what i did!!!

Ahh, a LPE 383, a definite maybe, otherwise I am gonna do a ZZ4 crate motor.

And yes, ASM is in Chandler AZ, they built my 99 Silverado, but I would not have them do anything to my other vehicles.

The ZZ4 crate will not be the tire fryer you are lookin for. I thought it would be too. but lost like 50 real world horsepower by using fuel injection, even though I added all the goodies. Better heads and a 219 cam maybe be the answer on top of the ZZ4. Still playin with my OE stock torn down motor in garage.

My recommendation would be to get the ZZ4 short block, LPE #74219 cam, AFR 190 heads and a large tube runner set up. A set up similar to this got me high 12's.
