Default Time for a chip?

Just completed the latest upgrade on my 86E automatic, Edelbrock RPM Performer heads, 170cc intake, 70cc combustion chamber, and 1.5 full roller rockers, this along with the previous mod's, long tube headers, no cat, ported plenum, throttle body bypass, K&N filter. I'm planning on adding an adjustable fuel pressure regulator this summer. I drove the car Sunday for the first time since the head change, seems to have a lot more seat of the pants go. Do I have enough mod's to benefit from a re-programmed chip from one of the mail order tuners?
Thanks

Sounds like the exact same heads on my '85

Mine runs just fine with the stock tune, but I think it could be smoother with a good tune. Below 1100 rpms mine doesnt feel quite right. I've yet to plunk down the $250 for a tune though

I think you'd benefit from one, but if you are planning a cam change in the near future you could hold off.

I'll be doing a cam change as part of next winters project. I do feel I have a heck of a lot more air coming in and going out, from what I've read, the mass air flow system is a little more forgiving to mod's, perhaps I can compensate with the AFPR.

What would be the best way for a computer challanged individual to data log?

You need a old laptop ( the sort that get given away) , a cable to connect to your ALDL connector ($60 ) under the dash
and some software.( free - $100 )

Details read here ( down page )
http://www.aldlcable.com/ Also has ALDL cables

For another $175 you can by a unit ( Ostrich ) that lets you tune your own engine using free software.
http://www.moates.net/product_info.p...ducts_id=16 9
You can adjust anything ; fan on temps , spark advance , convertor lockup , etc in real time and log the results

Dated but relevent reading on ECM tuning.
Most people use the Ostrich mentioned above rather than burning chips each time they want to make a change.Once they like what they have they then burn a chip to leave in the car permanently.

As a note, you can run without a retune but any tunning will optimise the parts you have , especially taking into consideration the stock tune had to cover a sunday drive to the golf club and someone who thrashes it.No one tune will be perfect for both

This could be interesting, I just brought my kid a laptop, so the next step would be to buy a ALDL cable that will work with the laptop. Then choose the soft ware I will need for data logging. Once I data log I could send the information collected to say PCMforless and they could re-flash the chip to optimize my mod's. I don't think I would want to do my own. Which one of the data lgging programs would be the easiest to use?
Thanks
