Re: 89 Coupe antenna (RickSnow)
There is a relay in the back near the hatch latch that could be bad.
THat would be less expensive than replacing the entire antenna (you can't just replace the motor).
Just replaced my third or fourth one (antenna that is). For me, the Relay has always checked out ok. If you want to test yours further, apply steady pressure to the top of the mast and see if it will retract. What happens is the plastic strap that connects the mast to the motor snaps and jams inside of the housing. I believe a kit is available to replace the strap and/or the mast, but I find it just as easy to replace the whole stupid thing.
In my case, it was just grime that accumulated and made it slow then eventually stick. Just wiped it down and cleaned it when the radio was on. Also maybe the ground?
Welcome aboard. Looks like you're new here. Wave at the other vettes on the road and let's see some pictures of your car! :seeya
Thanks for your help. I'll probably check it out this weekend. I am new here. I spend most of my time on my 66 427/390 and my 67 427/435. Thanks again.
