Do I have to remove the top dash pad to get to the info center on the car? Manual says remove 8 screws. Does passenger air bag have to be removed to remove the dash pad screws?

Thanks

Fred

Yes, it is easier to get the unit out if you remove the dash pad.

Hmmm...I can only remember 6 screws holding on the center trim panel. 2 on either side and 2 at the bottom (in front of the shifter). The only other 2 screws I can think of would be the two that go up into the dash pad, but those don't need to be removed to take the trim piece off. As for the "breadbox" (you refer to it as the airbag, but the 89 Vette's did not have airbags at all), you do not need to remove to get the trim panel off. Once the trim panel is off, there is 3 bolts (7mm if I remember right) that hold the info panel assembly to the dash. Remove those 3 bolts and then unplug the electrical connections.

BTW...there is no need to remove the dash pad. Now, if you are talking about the gauge cluster, then yes, you need to remove the dash pad. You also will need to remove the center trim panel as well, to get the trim panel off that surrounds the gauges.

Wrong, you don't need to remove the dash pad on 89 to get to the ctr info ctr. There are no air bags.
Just remove the center plastic trim, loosen the shifter trim and there ya go.
Also: What manual? If you were using the FSM it would break it out...
