Hello guys, I have a 1992 vette with lt1 engine. I have taken the engine out to do a complete overhaul. But before I did this, the engine had a ticking noise that sounded like a lifter. I have a friend that said chevrolet came out with a campaign number 923616A oct 92 that he thought was a fix for the noise but he's not sure. Did this engine have a lifter noise problem? and if so, has anyone had or have this problem with their lt1 engine. And what is the fix for this problem?
Thank, Icantdr55
I have a 92 LT1 and the valve train is a little noisey, but the magnesium valve covers seem to amplify it. I installed roller rockers and it was just as noisey. I don't think it's the lifters, I think it's just the valves and rockers. Even with a perfect valve adjustment, it's like a Singer sewing machine. Hey, it runs good and with a louder than normal exhaust, you hardly notice it.
If you are hearing a ticking sound, that's not normal for an LT1 valvetrain. If it is working properly, you will hear noise but no ticking. If you think the lifters are good, then double check the valve lash and make sure nothing is loose.

I had a noise in my '94 LT1 that one mechanic just listened to (hood not open) and thought it was a small exhaust leak. Since, I took it to the shop to have the LT4 hot cam installed and they discovered that next to the last lifter and cam lobe on the passenger side were making the noise. The lifter had a flat on the roller and the cam had some galding to the lobe bt not bad enough that it was going to go out on me real soon.
Glad I finally made the change to the hot cam and a few other goodies done to it and also found that the T/B was only opening about 80%.
This thing will now run circles around its self.
