My 84' has an 88' block in it. My oil pressure at idle cold is like over 60 psi.as I drive it gets lower and lower. After about 15 Min. or so it's now like 15-20 Psi at Idle (7-800 RPM).Yestrday with the A/C on was pretty hor outside,at 600-700 RPM Idle it was as low as 6 Psi.
I'm wondering if I have a bad sending unit? I don't believe my Mobil 10w30 could thin out that much to cause this.
Your oil pressure keeps changing and that is showing on your gauge. Don't shoot the messenger. It isn't the gauges fault if you don't like what you see. Oil pressure is the result of resistance to flow. As the engine rpms increase, so do the oil pump rpms. As more volume of oil is forced through a constant orifice (the engines oil passages) the pressure increases. The same with oil temp. Cold, more viscous oil, is more resistant to flow and causes higher oil pressure than oil that is warmed and thinner. What you are observing is normal.
