flaked out headlight

after I completely took it apart, sicked the drill press after it, I was able to drill out the bolts, make replacements and all was well in the land of OZ and things went back together without a hitch.
until I turned on the lights.
one head light was up, the other down. when I turned them off, they would switch back and forth, kinda like the hokey poky.
I took off the knuckle, did a 180 turn and it still did it.
after another hour of fighting with it, I finally just reversed the wires to the motor. works good now.
just thought I would share that with everyone.
any input on why it flaked out to begin with?

I found it quite odd, but then again, I have never taken one apart before
Worked for me.
The motor in these light assemblies isn't polarity sensitive, they just run up against the "overtravel" contact point sets at either end of the armature when the rotating assembly hits the stops causing the actual Armature to "shift" from the torque reaction. It's the contact points (whichever one) that determine which direction the motor will rotate.

another way to fix that is simply unplug one motor and activate the head lights when both are in the same position plug it back in

it is fine now, but I just reversed the wiring. I didnt try unplugging the one and acuating the other.
I have one left to rebuild. if it flakes, I will try that instead.
