I want to change my rear diff oil on my '91, 71K miles. I was going to take the cover off to clean the area. The Chevy dealer said there was no gasket replacement. Sold me a ED? silicone style sealer. I am going to use GM diff fluid and one posi additive.
Should I remove the cover plate or just pump out what's in there and replace it? No gasket - does this sound right? Any tips from previous experience is appreciated!
No gasket is correct. If that makes you nervous, you could always make your own. Most people in the know, add two of the 4 ounce bottles of the posi additive.
I asked the guy at the counter about two bottles (thought I had seen this in another post). He talked me out of it. Hopefully I won't have any noise - I suppose I could get some more in later.
I'll go at it - no gasket and all. Thanks to you both!
