It's a 90 Vette with six speed. I have intermittent knocking sound from the bottom of the engine area only after the engine fully warm up, the noise is worst with the a/c on. Every now and then it stalls out and I have to wait 5- 10 minutes before I can restart it. I went under the car with engine on , it sound like it's coming from inside the oil pan. Does anyone have a problem with their Vette like this and what can I do figure out exactly what's the problem here and what to do ???????????
Knocking noise from inside the oil pan? Not good. How's the oil pressure?
Your next move would be to drop the oil pan (can be done with engine in car) and check some rod and main bearings.
I had the same problem with my '90 6 spd. Take a long piece of wood and try to trace the knock.... On my car I traced the sound to the passenger side of the transmission/engine. Then zero'd in on the starter,I replaced the starter and threw in a heat shield and all is well. I don't have headers on the car, the old starter was just getting heat soaked. Hope this helps

T, does this happen when the car is cold, or hot? If it only happens when it's hot, check out the fuel injectors. I know it sounds crazy, but trust me, that's what it is. The engine is misfiring, and causeing the two halfs of the dual mass flywheel to bang together. My car did the same thing. It is easy to ohm out the injectors, the should read 16.5 ohms, give or take 1 ohm.
you test the injectors with the engine off, injectors in place but you unplug the wireing harness and use a multimeter to test resistance/ ohms by connecting the test leads to the 2 metal prongs or what ever you want to call them, where the wireing harness hooks up. check when cold, hope this helps i guess i kinda suck at explaining this stuff. good luck and let us know what you find out.
