Default lights in engine compartment

Hello, all

I recently purchased a 1990 black on black coupe. I have a few questions about it. I have allready poked around the archive a bit and could not find the answers to two questions I have. Both of these sound really stupid to me--and maybe they are easy ones for the forum--anyways here goes:

1. How do I turn on/fix the lights on the underside of the hood--they don't come on when I open the hood, and I don't see a switch for them. The car only has 22k on it so I have a hard time believing they are both bad.

2. What is the weight distribution for my car--I have not seen this spec listed anywhere--does any one know?

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to corvetting...I have a 94 and there is a fuse in the line down by the left drivers side marker light...be careful as it looks like a connector for the lites but it has a fuse in it...it took me almost a dozen times looking at it to open it up. it is a 10 amp fuse on mine...the lites have mercury switches in them and the bulbs could be out of them...pull a lens off and verify the bulbs are there after you look for the fuse. did you check you fuses in the side panel and in the fuse blocks just above the battery. good luck, hope this points you in the right direction. others may chime in that have a 90.

Thanks.

I think it would have taken me awhile to figure this out on my own. Do people disconnect these lights for a reason? Does the mercury switch cause some sort of problem with another electrical system?

Thanks again

Hope I can be of some help in the future.

I pulled the plug on the lights almost immediately to save the battery. I often leave the hoold open for days while parked in the garage.

I was hoping it was. I just sold my 1994 300zx so I could buy this car--boy am I glad I did--the vette is a way more fun car to drive, and can you believe it is lighter! The only thing I miss on the 300zx compared to the vette is the radio--GM should be ashamed to put such junk in there. I find it hard to believe that after 22k the CD does not work. I will be replacing that soon.

22K Miles is pretty low miles, but your 90 vette is 12years old. Things start breaking down with age, especially if the car just sits around the garage or outdoors without being driven often. Things start to deteriorate and break. The bulbs could be originals that are bad, or the connections to the bulbs need cleaning, etc,etc ,etc. Every so often you have to fix those odd things..

I took out the mercury switches and wired them direct... direct with a indiviual switch in each wire pathway to the light. I used a lamp switch that has a thumbwheel to make the connection... It is simple and allows you to keep them off unless you need them... they don't put out much light anyway... unless you can find brighter bulbs...
