Default Bumpy ride? Check yer lead...

I had a little wobble on the '94. Rims and rubber have 3k on 'em, and the wobble was erratic, but more pronounced under brakin'.

I pulled the front wheels to take the rotors in for shavin', and then looked at the lead inside the rim.

Nothin' but adhesive, and a short history lesson.

Anybody had a problem with stick-on lead stayin' stuck on? What do you do to keep it there?

Duct tape. For real. Clean the area and cover the weight with a strip of good quality duct tape. A year later it will be a bitch to remove and you will hate me.

That duct tape will not come off very easy.

If they use quality weights and install them correctly they should not come off. I would have them redone on the shop's dime. Later! Frank

use a thinner type cleaner or at least some good soap and water, simple green maybe before the weights go on. In my earlier years when i was a shop tech some guys were lazy and wouldn't clean a wheel when they balanced it. make sure your guys don't do this, that sticky tape is sticky but it doesn't like dirt and brake dust.

Ive lost a few of those, you can always hear it, too.

Duct tape can't be more than a couple of grams either.

I'll probably order some black duct tape, since I have GS rims and you'd see the gray.

The last tow time I had wheels balanced were whenthe wheels were brand new so thee was no real dirt or brake dust on the inside of the rim.

You can use a good wheel cleaner or SImple Green to scrub the inside surface and rinse with plenty of water. You can then wipe on some mineral spirits with a rag and dry everything off.

If you already have tape weights on the wheels and are installing new tires, remove the wheel from the car and use a small putty knife to remove the old tape weights. Use something loke Goo-Gone to remove any of the foam/tape residue then clean as above. It won't hurt to drive the car to a tire shop without the old weights simply to get new tires.

DUCT tape?

Are you freakin' kiddin'? On a vette?

Well, I'm glad someone else said it first, cause I was already thinkin' that. I don't know what else is gonna' fly... (or NOT fly - off)...

Good call on the black tape anes...

I cut the corners to lay it flat...

Afterward put a magic marker on the adhesive. These are
'Tomswheelz', and the paint is really thin on 'em - can't do the solvent thing...

Good quality duct tape means thin real aluminum with an adhesive backing paper that is pulled off before installing. Works great.

If duct tape is good enough for Lingenfelter it works for me!
