Default Where do I plug scanner?

Ok, ordered a autoxray scanner for my dead 1993 LT-1, so now the next question, where do I plug it in? Thanks for all answers. Jimi

Just left of the center console above your right knee when driving. Best of luck with your new scan tool but keep in mind a "dead" car may require more fundamental diagnosis.
Does the engine crank with the starter, is there fuel pressure and spark to the plugs? Such failures are unlikely to set a code so you will need the basic trouble shooting skills needed to eliminate them as a possibility.

Be sure your battery is connected and fully charged before attempting to scan or you could possibly make the problem worse. Don't leave the battery charger connected when scanning.

Also, don't try to start the car while scanning unless the scanner tells you to. Hook the scanner up to the ALDL connector located as stated in the previous post, then turn the key to the run position only (not the accessory or start position). Just read the scanner manual completely before attempting a scan.

Default dead 1993 LT-1

The car died on the way home from work, like it ran out of gas...had just left the filling station, after several attempts she refired and I made it home. The next day it only turns over, reaching under the opit$park, feels like a greasy film on it. Did not wash the motor, and have no leaks. Thanks, Jimi

Sounds like you could have a leak from the w/p shaft and/or Opti shaft seals in the timing chain cover. Not likely to reach the driveway/garage floor so not noticed. The oil could get into the Opti from its own shaft seal and any w/p coolant leak, no matter how small, could help saturate the Opti causing a failure. Opti's and coolant do not mix at all. Opti's do fail just that quick, not usually, but does happen.

You didn't say if you are getting fire to the Opti from the coil or from the Opti to the plugs. Could be a bad coil or ignition control module that's mounted with the coil on the front of the passenger side head.
First check that there are no wires or connectors loose that could cause the failure.

Why?

The things you say would be relevant if we were talking about flashing a prom, but we're talking about scanning for codes.
