i have a 1991 corvette coupe six speed and i want to put headers on it , but would like to know how much power it would put out , im looking at getting the hooker super comps. long tubes , has anyone put these on there car before ?
Not much. The LT1's stock exhaust is not restrictive whatsoever to the stock engine. Those headers are meant for the L98 which DOES have a restrictive intake and exhaust.
I installed the Hooker Super Comp longtubes on my LT4 (which is virtually the same process), but I didn't do it for the power, I did it for the 30 lb weight reduction and the opportunity to use an insulating coating. Working with the manifold is a nightmare but I didn't have much choice because my cats were clogged.
I have the 2149's (with emissions equip), Of the long tubes, they are the best value. Beyond the hookers look for Stainless Steel, TriY's, or smooth single tubes. You find that the cost difference between the hookers and the others may not be worth the bones for the gained HP.
However, just have your end goal in mind. Melrose or exotic muscle headers are great products and I wish I went with them to support my 427. But if your goal is the stock motor+ bolts ons the comp will be just fine.
You may want to look at the catback only though as it will provide more "acoustic" enjoyment.
For a performance stand point, you really need to look at getting rid of that intake. Any exhuast mod without improving the intake will not give you HP that you may think. Most of the intake crowd will bolt on a super ram (upper and lower) for immediate hp gains.
I put the Hooker Super Comps on my 90 L98 without the Cat then branching out to dual pipes to a set of Flowmasters. I had a few small issues when installing them but nothing major. You might want to see if you can get the Headers unfinished then take them to a place that does the Ceramic Header Coating cause Hookers Coating is crap. Mine were on the Car for about a year and the Coating started coming off. Nice HP improvement and sound though. Get yourself a good set of Header Gaskets and Bolts and after you heat em up awhile go back and re tighten the bolts again. GOOD LUCK Pipe

Look for headers with 1 5/8" primary tubes. They will start to "work" at lower rpms and give you more seat of a pants improvement in your daily driving than the larger 1 3/4" headers, like the Hookers.
well im looking at hooker super comp.headers for my 91 vette and im not sure which size to go with , 1-3/4 or 1-5/8, i think that my stock headers are 1- 5/8
Did you read post #8. The post immediately preceding the quoted post?

You don't have a choice on the primary tube size with Hooker headers. They are 1 3/4". There is no such thing as "stock headers". Your stock exhaust manifolds have 1 1/2" tubes but they aren't headers. The best value headers are the Hedmans. They are 1 5/8" tubes and the Elite series have a thermal coating, plus extra thick tubes and flanges.
