My 87 is essentially stock. It has 126000 km (approximately 78000 miles) on it. The car has been in my family since it was brand new so I know its' exact maintenance history. Recently I have been having issues with it stalling when cold and also a popping noise when shifting. I've been told by people on here that my injectors are likely leaking and/or clogged.
What should I do? Take them out and attempt to clean them or just replace them alltogether? These are the original injectors that it left Bowling Green with.
What is involved in removing the injectors? If I do replace them, what do you recommend?
Typically I send a set of injectors to Rich at Cruzin Performance (link on my site) but, with >190k miles on my '88 injectors I decided to purchase a set of new units.
So I just picked up a set of 23lb/hr Accel injectors from Summit and will install them soon as I take care of the eternal "tax man"...
I don't know about rates in your area, but it cost me $140 to have my injectors cleaned, serviced and flow-balanced. That's about half the price of brand new injectors right there, so I'd just go new if I were you.
the 1987 corvette came stock with a 21.45lb Bosch injector made for Rochester Products with Pn 17111961. The trick flows sold by summit are 24lbs/ It is not recommended to put a 24lb injector in that car without ECU recalibration. Do not think you can just put a universal Injector in any engine. You always want to match the replacement size with the size injector that was engineered for your engine.
