Default What harm can I do

The cars in the shop and they are checking for codes 34 & 36 which relate to the massive air flow system. Members in the form have told me what the codes mean.

If the problem is not the relay but the sensor. Is it a must fix item? What harm am I doing to the car by driving it without fixing it now?

Thanks for the help with the earlier posting!!

Drivability can become an issue, stalling, surging, etc.

a MAF sensor from autozone is around 150 and can be installed in 5-10 minutes.

yes it is a must fix because the MAF controls so much of the information going to your computer. Youll need to replace both the Power and Burnoff relays first. If you stay around the forum long enough, youll want to modify your MAF to get more HP out of your engine. You can buy a modified MAF directly from Mid America or Ecklers (about $230 i think) or you can take the new one and remove the screens on the front and backside.

welcome to the joy of owning an early c4. The power and burnoff relays and the MAF are things that commonly go bad. Go ahead and learn how to change them yourself. You will save lots of money that way.

MAF = Mass Air Flow

techincally, it is a sensor. In front of the throttle body, it determines the volume of air coming in, so it can mix the fuel accordingly. thats why it is so important.

you won't directly harm anything if it is bad... but the wreck it could cause would be bad!

Where in RIC do you live? I worked at VDOT back in the mid 90s... live out by Short Pump...

Work in Innsbrook but live in the southside. I don't know if you would believe how little Short Pump has grown.
