Its on the RPO code label which can be found in the hatch on the bottom side of the compartment lid behind the driver's seat. Color codes are 2 numbers followed by a U (exterior color) and the interior color code ends with a I. Example: 40U is white.

1987 Color codes

13 Silver Metallic
18 Medium Gray Metallic
20 Medium Blue Metallic
35 Yellow
40 White
41 Black
53 Gold Metallic
59 Silver Beige Metallic
66 Copper Metallic
69 Medium Brown Metallic
74 Dark Red Metallic
81 Bright Red

I checked on the lid and the only 2 digits followed by a U is 55U and the interior 2 digits followed by a I is 65I. I don't see the 55U. My bad, I need the paint codes for the 1986 year. I have 3 vetts and it is hard to keep up with them. Thanks

Look at the bottom of the SPID tag. It should look like this
BCCC WA-U8748
That is from my dark red metallic '86. The important digits are
between the 8's. 74 benny

On the 87, the Service Parts Identification sticker is under the console lid. The lcoation varied in the early years of the C4.

At the very bottom of the sticker there shoud be a 4 digit code beginning with "WA" This code is also a paint code that can be cross-referenced at an auto paint supply store. Also, some C4's came with two-tone paint and the lower color code ended in "L". The upper color used the U in those paint combinations and also was used for single color paint.

55 is not a valid paint code. What color is the car or can you post a pic of the car. 65I for the interior means the car has a "bronze" interior. IF the seats are cloth, you should see a 65C or if they are leather, there should be a 652.

Here's a link to Corvette paint colors and codes from a number of paint manufacturers. Just go down to the 1986 section.

I looked at the bottom of my 86 RPO card, WA-U8773 is what I have but I don't see that code. I believe my color is silver beige metallic, but can't confirm with the codes. The interior is correct with the bronze color.

WA-U8773

The "U" is for upper (or single color if it wasn't a two tone), as c4cruiser mentioned. The link he posted for Corvette paint codes shows your code.

OEM Code: 59
Color: Silver Beige Metallic
WA Code: 8773

What do you do if the idiot PO removed the lid and shell so he could install a 12" woofer and amplifier?

Go to the National Corvette Museum and purchase a build sheet for your car.
Provide them with the VIN, and they will provide you with the build sheet.
