What Pound Radiator Cap Is Required For A 1986? I Have A 7lb On Now , Do I Need To Change It?

actually GM is still selling these, just bought one the other day for a 1990. something like 11 bucks. 17 LB on the 90-96, got me on the 84-89 but 7 sounds awful light.

My late 86 came with a 17 psi cap.

I know with a lower pressure cap, your coolant will boil over at a lower temperature, but at the same time, you are putting less pressure on the cooling system and less stress on the old radiator hoses. As long as the coolant is at a 50/50 mix and doesn't reach past 240 instead of 260, I would say it is fine.
