Default 93 serpentine belt

Does it take anything more than changing the tensioner pulley to convert the 92-early93 belt from dual grooves to single sided grooves?
TIA

From memory, I believe it requires a P/S pulley as well. You would need to change or modify anything that rides on the back side of the belt. I'm pretty sure on my car that would be the tensioner and p/s pump.

You are right I could not remember. I wonder how hard it is to pull the pulley on the PS pump without damaging it?

Now that I've woken up this morning, I remembered the idler pulley is on the back side as well. I've never pulled the p/s pulley off. I've read that it's a piece of cake with the right puller, and pretty much impossible with out it. Autozone or similar might have the puller.

A good p/s puller is worth it's weight in silver... Don't try it with out one... With a good one (key word is good) it will be a piece of cake.. I made the change over in about two hours and that included two trips to the cooler and a 15 minute phone conversation...

My car is a early '93 and has the two sided belt. I don't plan on changing pullies until I can no longer buy the belt (they're still sold here).

X2! I actually like the design of the double sided much better more surface area in contact. I just replaced mine, and bought 2 spares just in case as the local parts guy gave me quite a discount by buying 3.

I converted mine because I had a hard time finding the p/s pump pulley (developed cracks) and the conversion kit was cheaper than the pulley itself... I had just replaced the two sided belt and tension pulley... They are new and if anyone wants them I will give them away for the price of the shipping... Anyone interested???

Small cracks in the belt are normal!

The cracks were in the p/s pulley, not the belt... Cracks were found while replacing the belt...

Chevrolet actually had a tech order that had all the parts necessary to change over to the single sided belt. You can go by the dealership and ask for the upgrade instructions and parts required. I decided to stay with the double sided belt until I can't get any more. I carry a spare.

i just lost a strand off my double sided belt on my way to town tonight.made a heck of a racket under there.
luckily i wasnt tached up at the time.
i had replaced the belt last season with a carquest belt which i think is gates.
it had maybe 5k on it when it failed.
this is belt number 3 at 41k miles.
im gonna check into the dealer kit thing tomorrow and see if its still getable.
ive never seen a serp belt lose a complete groove like that, but then again,i had never seen a double sided one before this either.
im pretty sure the reason they got away from the double sided thing is durability.
theres just no meat to hold the things together like the single sided has.
bummer, cuz i like the looks of them.
but-they cost twice the amount too-list price is 80+ dollars,i pay 39 with fleet discount though.
anyone think of a performance advantage to the double sided?
