where here it is new opti installed on the car and the engine runs great. by now i have a new problem. transsmion is bad and the car idles high car is idling at about 1100 rpm. and when it shifts past second it slips and then shifts back into second so i guess this is a bad transmission
man i hate this i am looking at 2000.00 for a transmission
Ouch.
Hopefully, that figure includes removal and replacement, along with a quality remanned converter, a few h/d upgrades,a cooler flush, and a warrantee.
a one year warranty pull and install and a flush. and i am getting this price if i go with jasper or supply the parts and converter to a local rebuild shop it is all the same price
First off I ain't no expert. I had a similar problem on my 87 after some seemingly unrelated work was done.
The mechanic noticed there was too much too much slack in the down shift cable so he adjusted (by the throttle body) about (less than) a 1/4 inch. Man the trans was not happy!!!
It would stick in low until about 3000 rpm then slam into drive. It didn't like staying in drive at all. I took it back to him , he was very surprised after the road test. He set the cable clamp back to where it was and presto just like new.
Go Fiqure?! the fella that did the adjustment is a Corvette mechanis and the adjustment of the cable was within specs but the car didn't like it!
Man, whats going on here? My trans just crapped out the other day to.
I did however find a guy that will R&R and rebuild for 550.00, but I have to wait until next month on the 24th. This guy has been building transmission for almost 20 years at the same location and is always booked at least 1 month in advance. At that price I can afford to buy a Pete Kane converter as well.

That price is a bit low for R+R as well. If you know people that have used him and are satisfied you have scored a deal
